Photographing The Narrows | Landscape Photography | Zion National Park | Utah | 4K
In this video, I head to the gorgeous Zion National Park, Utah, to photograph ‘The Narrows’. I spent two whole days (over successive weeks) in The Narrows, Zion National Park, with my camera and couldn’t get enough – so much to see and photograph in this amazing slot canyon. Come with me, as I walk you through my thought process, with respect to determining optimal locations for well structured compositions and technique to capture amazing images, in this magical landscape.

This video contains content from two of my visits to The Narrows in Zion – one during the last week of June 2020 and the other, the first week of July 2020.

I don’t subscribe to many channels on Photography here, although I watch a ton of them. But after watching this one, Boom, I’m all in!! Great video!!

Another great video. My wife found your channel while researching Zion for a trip we are planning in the fall. The Narrows is one of the main places we are planning to visit. Excellent work and we look forward to your next video.

Great video! I’ll be there next month, 3 days at Zion and 3 at Bryce. I’m bringing my Z6ii and d750, 16-35 f 4, 24-70 f4 and Probably a long lens? Maybe a 70-200 or 200-500? Thoughts on a long lens? Thank you

The lighting is paramount to nail that epic shot as you illustrate in your video. About what time of day do you suggest to be at wall street/the rock to get that great light? And about how long did it take you from start ( in the water/narrows ) to get to the fork? Thanks again…great presentation!

Great job! Like the way you explain everything step by step. I will be there 4/15/2021, hope mother nature cooperates, this will be my first time there-looks awesome!

Well done! I stumbled across this video…watched about 100 regarding Southern Utah. Heading there end of September for a 3 week road trip. Can’t wait. I vacillate between bringing my Canon and just shooting with my iPhone 12 Pro max when hiking The Narrows. Main issue is that I need to use my backpack with a back brace due to back issues. I can certainly use a dry bag inside the pack for my gear. I didn’t see you putting your gear away after each shoot. I can’t risk falling or tripping with my camera gear; so am wondering what a pain it is going to be putting gear away..taking it out…away and taking it out. Again, you did a great job!

Talk about hitting the ground running! You just started and your channel is already vastly better than 90% of YouTube

Nikhil, great video and love your photos. I follow your images on FM too. Did you use any ND or CP filters? Also, when you shot the image with a big boulder in the middle waiting for the light to bounce off the walls, around what time was that? You need to start putting together some phot tours 🙂 I would join…..take care and keep on exploring.

Impressive video! Why do you sometimes use f/11 and f/14 when it seems you use f/16 most of the time? Btw, I can relate to what you said about Yosemite vs. Zion. I’m a 69-year-old Californian who visited Yosemite quite a few times to hike when I was younger, but, when I first visited Zion in 1996, I was blown away. It seemed like a technicolor Yosemite to me, and I couldn’t understand why it wasn’t as famous. Thanks!

I am so so glad to watch your video on photographing the narrows – about to go for my first time in Sept, and researching the most concise gear to bring.
I have a Canon camera and most likely going to bring 17-40 f/4 lens as it’s the lightest. Could bring 24-70 but it’s 2lbs (perhaps this might be good for the rest of zion?). Also thinking of purchasing a prime 24mm f/1.4 version ii lens which is supposed to be super sharp.

The timing considerations sound most important for narrows – and tripod, and ND, and CPL. (though you didn’t mention ND so perhaps that’s less needed!)
