Mountain Biking Bear Canyon Trail in American Fork Canyon, Utah on the Ibis Ripmo

Mike from Utah Mountain Biking was kind enough to take me out to the trails in American Fork Canyon about 45 minutes South of Salt Lake City, Utah.
We rode some incredible trails including Trail 151 that was absolutely amazing techy steep terrain…. unfortunately, mud got on my camera lens and the footage was unusable.
Bear Canyon was also a lot of fun albeit much more tame than trail 151 from Julie Andrews meadow.
The Ibis Ripmo was incredible on this ride and I’m really diggin this bike!

Thanks for letting me use your beats on my video!

Thanks for watching and I’ll see you next week for the Ibis Ripley vs Ripmo video!

    Hi!
Unfortunately I can never attend to your Q&A videos because of the time zone difference but…. what are your favorite shoes when you are running clip-less pedals? Thank you 🙂
By the way, I’m 36 and I absolutely understand what you meant when you talked about seeing life with your 22 years old eyes, hahaha…… 🙁

Finally pulled the trigger on a Ripmo – picked up a frame and doing a custom build with my LBS. Basically a fancy version of the Ibis GX build – DPX2, Factory 36, Enve bars, Hope brakes & stem, X01 cassette, XM481 & 350 (with star ratchet) wheelset, 2.5 DHF front and 2.3 Rekon rear (great setup for Wisconsin, which is a pretty pedal-y place). I was on a Pivot Mach 5.5 since last summer but never really got along with it. Felt like it would be killer on an enduro course, but was sluggish on slower stuff and when goofing around on smaller features. The Ripmo by comparison felt like a cheat code no matter what I threw at it during a demo last year. Should have it all ready to go in about 10 days, can’t wait!

Ripmo vs 2019 Hightower LT, what are the main differences? Which one is better at what?

  6. Nate Godinez on June 13, 2021 at 7:22 pm

Would the ripley have been a good bike for this trail as well?

Hi Jason, I’m a new subscriber to your channel and firstly I’d like to say your videos and reviews are great I find them very informative so thanks for all the good work. I’m buying a new bike and the ripmo is easily at the top of my list( mainly thanks to your reviews), but getting hold of demo bikes where I am in the uk seems very difficult. I know there’s no replacement for getting on a bike to see how it feels but I just wondered if you have any thoughts on bike size. I’m 1.75m ( roughy 5’ 9”) so I’m on the boarder of medium and large. Looking forward to the ripmo vs ripley. Thanks

Mike definitely has the Timpooneke pronunciation down. 🙂 Cool riding.

How would you have liked the Mojo 3 on this trail? Your video on that bike helped influence me to get one and I adore it! Good video, love your groove!

Cool video! I got a question from overseas (Germany). I own a Rocky Instinct and want to buy a Ripley LS with the X01 kit. I loved the demo. The new Ripley 4 is sold out for the next 3 months over here and there’s not even a demo availble. I get an nice discount from my local dealer on the LS (color is Vitamin P-love it). Is it worth to wait 3 months (cant!!! need the new ride!!!) and compare both of them or should I grab the LS? Is the new Ripley so much better in descending than the "old" one? Thank you man!

  27. Nick Adams on June 13, 2021 at 7:54 pm

What length enve stem are you running on that ripmo?

  28. Gnar Lee on June 13, 2021 at 7:57 pm

I just did this trail on Sunday for the first time! This was my favorite trail of the year so far, I couldn’t stop smiling during and after that ride!  Your video definitely has the go pro effect going!  You can tell how fast it is, but not how steep it is, and you can’t really capture the drop off on your left!  So much fun!  We shuttled 157 to the tibble reservoir after we got done with Bear.  AF canyon is awesome AF hahahaha!

  29. Scott Strand on June 13, 2021 at 7:58 pm

Jason, love your videos, appreciate all the work! Do you by chance have a list of video equipment you like best? (camera, gimbal, etc.)

  30. Matthew Myette on June 13, 2021 at 7:59 pm

I can’t get over my New England bias: it’s beautiful out west but just pedaling up and then bombing back down would bore me to tears. I think I’d rather hike and enjoy the views.

Hey man hope all is well with you and your family? Just letting you know I’m missing your reviews these days! 🤙🏻

  36. Chris Wood on June 13, 2021 at 8:06 pm

That was a nice little change. We need a little more Parker in your videos though.

  37. Zuke on June 13, 2021 at 8:07 pm

Do you think the Ripley V4 would not have been enough bike for this trail? I’m trying to decide between the new Ripley and Ripmo. I’m currently riding a Mojo HD 26er and love the dw-link, and it’s long overdue to move up to the new wheel standard. As I get older and am getting dropped hard on the climbs, I need something lighter that can climb better, as I think I have enough DH skills to make up for the shortage in suspension travel over my 160mm.

"Bush to the face". I feel like this was a common thing to say in the 70’s.

  39. Diego Lopez on June 13, 2021 at 8:09 pm

That last section looked sooo fun! Get back out there to Trail 151 so we can see the techy steeper stuff!

  40. RideLabs on June 13, 2021 at 8:10 pm

Nice job first ride. Yea, Mike is so fast on that, he lost me on those switchbacks haha.

  41. Dirt Bike on June 13, 2021 at 8:11 pm

  46. MusicManMTB on June 13, 2021 at 8:15 pm

Sweet! I rode this for the first time in the Fall last year and absolutely loved it. Such a riot of a trail to ride! Those tight chunky switchbacks are no joke, no shame in the dab, haha. I’m pretty sure I almost went down the mountain side on that first one, it has quite a decent sized drop right before it, makes a beast to get the tight turn in without a dab. Glad to see you getting down to AF Canyon! I hope Mike took you down Mud Springs. That trail is like Bear Canyon x 10, haha. Such a killer downhill.

  47. Brady Hall on June 13, 2021 at 8:16 pm

I like the riding video do more of them! Sold my Ripmo to get a Ripley so super interested in the next video. Thanks Jason!

  48. Trevan Thomas on June 13, 2021 at 8:17 pm

Just rode this yesterday. It’s way steeper and chunkier than the video shows. Fun trail!

  49. Manny P on June 13, 2021 at 8:18 pm

Can’t wait for the Ripmo vs Ripley video. I got a Ripmo almost 3 months ago and I couldn’t be happier. Keep up the great work with videos.
